“Imagine a scenario of heavy rains and flooding, where the transportation routes have been impacted,” says Mitesh Shah, Director of Workplace Recovery in the APAC region for Regus. “Would your family want you to travel to a recovery site that’s two hours away? Today, organisations need to revamp their recovery strategies and make them convenient for their employees – both travel and infrastructure-wise.”

One of the best things about flexspace is its people-centric approach. And this is exactly what the flexible workspace sector can bring to companies’ disaster recovery plans – practical, adaptable back-up office space that’s easily accessible for employees.

Shah recently attended the International Business Continuity and Disaster Risk Management Summit in the Philippines on behalf of Regus to share best practice with businesses in Asia when it comes to creating the optimal disaster recovery plan. During his thought leadership session, ‘The Future of Workplace Recovery’, he walked the delegation of risk directors through live case studies of how organisations have successfully recovered during crisis incidents.

“I showed attendees why recovery strategies fail, and what common mistakes organisations make when doing their business continuity plan,” says Shah. “At the end of it, attendees would have been aware of the new recovery strategies Regus has to offer – and how our Dynamic Recovery option gives organisations guaranteed office seats and the flexibility to choose from multiple Regus sites.”

Regus has more than 500 centres in the APAC region, and its ubiquity is its trump card when providing a disaster recovery space. “We leverage our inventory to provide space to our clients,” says Mitesh Shah. “We are the only organisation in the region that has the capability to serve clients during all kinds of incidents, as we are not dependent on just one site to provide recovery.”

Regus has a healthy client base in Southeast Asia, and attending the International Business Continuity and Disaster Risk Management Summit is an important way to connect with regional risk directors seeking support with their business’s continuity plan.

“Our objective is to familiarise organisations with the threat environment that they are living in and educate them of the possible workplace recovery strategies that they can adopt so that they can effectively recover during a crisis,” says Shah. “We want to make organisations more resilient so that they are better prepared to face crisis scenarios.”
