Stirling is a city in central Scotland, with a medieval castle in the heart of its old town. Known as the “Gateway to the Highlands”, the town is located on the River Forth. The Smith Art Gallery and Museum has a mixture of local and national pieces of artwork. Historically, Stirling was a market town surrounded by lots of agricultural land and, these days, agriculture is still important but not quite to the same extent as it was previously.
Stirling Council and the University of Stirling are two of the biggest employers in the region, with a number of research and knowledge-related businesses clustered around the university. Ideally situated a few miles east of the M9 motorway, the town enjoys convenient access to Glasgow and Edinburgh. From Stirling railway station, the two major Scottish cities can be reached, as well as King’s Cross Station in London.
